Job Brief

The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for drawing blood for tests, transfusions, donations, and research. This role requires a strong understanding of phlebotomy techniques, excellent patient interaction skills, and the ability to handle adverse reactions safely. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, relevant certifications, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary collection for laboratory tests and blood donations.
  • Explain the blood draw procedure to patients to ensure comfort and understanding.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions during and after blood collection.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Prepare and label blood samples for processing and transport.
  • Adhere to infection control measures and maintain a sterile environment.
  • Assist in training new phlebotomy staff and students as required.
  • Stay updated on best practices and advancements in phlebotomy techniques.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification in phlebotomy preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Phlebotomy Technician or in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse patient populations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform under pressure.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and laboratory software.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
