Job Brief
The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for drawing blood for tests, transfusions, donations, and research. This role requires a strong understanding of phlebotomy techniques, excellent patient interaction skills, and the ability to handle adverse reactions safely. Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary collection for laboratory tests and blood donations.
- Explain the blood draw procedure to patients to ensure comfort and understanding.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions during and after blood collection.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Prepare and label blood samples for processing and transport.
- Adhere to infection control measures and maintain a sterile environment.
- Assist in training new phlebotomy staff and students as required.
- Stay updated on best practices and advancements in phlebotomy techniques.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in phlebotomy preferred.
- Proven experience as a Phlebotomy Technician or in a similar role.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse patient populations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform under pressure.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and laboratory software.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
