Job Brief

As a Petrologist, you will explore the composition and structure of the Earth’s materials, utilizing your expertise in geology, physics, and mathematics. You will engage in the analysis of rocks and minerals to provide insights into natural resources such as oil, gas, and minerals, while addressing environmental challenges like waste disposal and land reclamation. This role requires a strong foundation in geological sciences and practical experience in fieldwork and laboratory analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed studies of rock and mineral samples to determine their physical and chemical properties.
  • Utilize advanced geological software and techniques to analyze subsurface formations for resource exploration.
  • Collaborate with geologists and environmental scientists to assess impacts on natural resources and ecosystems.
  • Design and implement field studies to collect data on geological formations and their potential uses.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders and clients.
  • Develop and maintain databases of geological data for ongoing research and analysis.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulations affecting geological practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field; a Master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
  • Proven experience in petrology, mineralogy, or a related geological field.
  • Proficiency in geological software (e.g., GIS, AutoCAD) and data analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex geological data.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting technical information effectively.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and best practices in geological exploration.
  • Willingness to travel for fieldwork and site assessments.
