Job Brief
The Petroleum Technician plays a critical role in the exploration and production of oil and gas resources. This position involves assisting scientists and engineers in utilizing electronic, sonic, and nuclear measuring instruments to gather vital data on resources such as petroleum, gas, metallic ore, and minerals. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in analyzing mud and drill cuttings while effectively monitoring various well characteristics, including pressure and temperature.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the operation and calibration of electronic, sonic, and nuclear measuring instruments to collect data on petroleum and gas resources.
- Conduct thorough analysis of mud and drill cuttings to identify geological formations and resource viability.
- Chart and record well parameters, including pressure, temperature, and other relevant characteristics for ongoing monitoring.
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists to interpret data and provide actionable insights for exploration and production activities.
- Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations.
- Prepare reports on exploratory data and findings to assist in decision-making processes.
- Implement best practices in data collection and documentation to enhance operational efficiency.
- Stay updated on industry trends and technologies to improve technical skills and operational procedures.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Petroleum Technology, Geology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with electronic, sonic, and nuclear measuring instruments.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on data interpretation and problem-solving.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting techniques.
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations in the oil and gas industry.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams.
- Ability to work in various field environments and adapt to changing conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to field sites as required.
