Job Brief
The Personal Support Worker (PSW) plays a crucial role in providing personalized assistance to individuals with disabilities or illnesses, ensuring they receive the necessary support for daily living activities. The PSW is responsible for aiding with personal care tasks such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and ambulation. This role requires compassion, patience, and excellent communication skills, along with experience in caregiving or healthcare settings.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with personal care and activities of daily living (ADLs) including feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Support clients with mobility and ambulation, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Implement personalized care plans in collaboration with healthcare professionals and family members.
- Prepare nutritious meals and assist with dietary needs as required.
- Provide light housekeeping duties such as cleaning, laundry, and organizing living spaces.
- Document and report changes in clients’ health or behavior to appropriate personnel.
- Engage clients in social and recreational activities to promote overall well-being.
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment for clients while respecting their dignity and privacy.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in personal support work or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in a caregiving role, preferably with individuals with disabilities or chronic illnesses.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with clients and families.
- Ability to perform physical tasks related to personal care and mobility assistance.
- Basic knowledge of hygiene, safety, and infection control procedures.
- Compassionate and patient demeanor, with a strong commitment to providing high-quality care.
- Flexible availability to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends.
