Job Brief
The Pecan Gatherer plays a vital role in the agricultural sector by manually planting, cultivating, and harvesting pecan nuts and other crops. Responsibilities
- Manually plant, cultivate, and harvest pecans and other crops using hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, and shears.
- Till soil, apply fertilizers, and prepare land for planting to optimize crop yields.
- Transplant, weed, thin, and prune crops to maintain growth and quality standards.
- Apply pesticides and other treatments as needed to protect crops from pests and diseases.
- Clean, grade, sort, pack, and load harvested products for distribution.
- Construct trellises and assist in the repair of fences and farm buildings to enhance operational efficiency.
- Participate in irrigation activities to ensure crops receive adequate water supply.
Requirements
- Previous experience in agricultural roles, particularly in harvesting and crop management.
- Proficiency in the use of hand tools and farming equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Knowledge of pest management and organic farming practices is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control in harvesting processes.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with other farm workers.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional agricultural education or certifications are advantageous.
