Job Brief

As a Payment Collector, you will be responsible for locating and notifying customers regarding delinquent accounts through various communication channels, including mail, telephone, and personal visits. Your primary duties will involve soliciting payments, processing received payments, maintaining accurate records of accounts, and preparing statements for further action. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in collections procedures to ensure timely recovery of outstanding debts.

Responsibilities

  • Contact customers with overdue accounts to inform them of their payment obligations.
  • Utilize phone calls, emails, and letters to facilitate payment arrangements.
  • Receive and process payments, posting amounts to customer accounts as required.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed records of collection activities and account statuses.
  • Initiate repossession proceedings or service disconnection processes for non-responsive customers.
  • Collaborate with credit departments to prepare statements for further action on delinquent accounts.
  • Negotiate payment plans and settlements to recover outstanding balances.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of collection efforts and strategies.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in collections, debt recovery, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of collection procedures and legal guidelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle challenging conversations and negotiate effectively.
  • Proficient in using collection software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess account statuses and prioritize actions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in finance or business is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
