Job Brief

As a Pathology Transcriptionist, you will play a critical role in the healthcare documentation process by accurately transcribing medical reports recorded by physicians and healthcare practitioners. This position requires proficiency in using various electronic devices to convert dictated reports into written form, ensuring clarity and precision in medical documentation. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, excellent language skills, and familiarity with medical terminology, enabling them to produce high-quality transcription for diverse medical scenarios, including office visits, emergency room encounters, and diagnostic imaging studies.

Responsibilities

  • Transcribe and edit medical reports dictated by physicians and healthcare professionals, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards.
  • Convert dictated notes into clear, comprehensive written documents, translating medical abbreviations into full terminology.
  • Utilize electronic transcription software and tools efficiently to deliver timely reports for review and approval.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations while handling sensitive patient information.
  • Review and proofread transcripts to correct errors and ensure high-quality documentation.
  • Return completed reports in both printed and electronic formats for physician review or correction.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to clarify any unclear dictation or medical terms as needed.
  • Stay updated on medical terminology and transcription best practices to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in medical transcription or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as a transcriptionist in a medical setting, with a strong understanding of pathology terminology.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and transcription software.
  • Exceptional listening, typing, and editing skills, with a high degree of accuracy and speed.
  • Strong command of the English language, including grammar, punctuation, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Certification as a Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) or Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) is a plus.
