Job Brief

The PACU Nurse (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse) plays a critical role in the recovery of patients following anesthesia and surgical procedures. Responsible for assessing patient health problems, implementing nursing care plans, and maintaining detailed medical records, the PACU Nurse ensures optimal patient outcomes. Ideal candidates will possess strong clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and excellent communication skills. Experience in post-operative care and a valid nursing license are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and monitor patients’ vital signs and level of consciousness post-anesthesia.
  • Administer nursing care to ill, injured, or recovering patients based on established protocols.
  • Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans tailored to each patient’s specific needs.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families regarding recovery and health maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records, documenting patient progress and interventions.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies and complications effectively.
  • Advise patients on disease prevention and wellness strategies as needed.

Requirements

  • Current and valid nursing license or registration in the applicable state.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a post-anesthesia or critical care setting.
  • Strong understanding of anesthesia and surgical procedures.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient and family interaction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and healthcare technology.
