As an Optometry Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations of an optometry practice. Responsibilities
- Schedule patient appointments and manage the optometry calendar efficiently.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist optometrists in conducting eye examinations and preparing examination rooms.
- Take and record patient vital signs and medical histories accurately.
- Administer medications and perform diagnostic tests as directed by the optometrist.
- Process billing and coding for insurance claims and patient payments.
- Educate patients on eye care procedures and proper use of optical products.
- Support inventory management by ordering and restocking supplies as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in optometry or healthcare preferred.
- Proven experience as an optometry assistant or in a similar healthcare role.
- Familiarity with medical billing, coding, and electronic health records (EHR).
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact with patients in a professional manner.
- Basic knowledge of eye care products and procedures is a plus.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification in CPR or First Aid is advantageous.
