Job Brief

As an Ophthalmic Technologist, you will play a vital role in assisting ophthalmologists by performing essential clinical functions in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This position requires a strong understanding of ophthalmic procedures, patient care, and diagnostic testing. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team. Previous experience in an ophthalmic setting is highly beneficial, along with proficiency in administering eye exams, medications, and patient education.

Responsibilities

  • Administer comprehensive eye examinations under the supervision of ophthalmologists.
  • Perform diagnostic tests including visual acuity assessments, tonometry, and retinal imaging.
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms and medical equipment for patient visits.
  • Educate patients on the use and care of corrective lenses and other eye care products.
  • Assist in the administration of prescribed eye medications and treatments.
  • Document patient histories and maintain accurate medical records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Support ophthalmologists during procedures and surgeries, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Stay updated on advancements in ophthalmology technology and practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) is preferred.
  • Proven experience in an ophthalmic or healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, and common eye diseases.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare staff.
  • Proficient in using ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
