Job Brief
The Ocular Care Aide supports ophthalmic practices by performing essential administrative and clinical tasks under the supervision of a physician. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with experience in patient care and medical office procedures. Key responsibilities include managing patient records, scheduling appointments, and assisting with clinical tasks such as taking vital signs and preparing patients for examinations. Responsibilities
- Schedule patient appointments and manage the appointment calendar efficiently.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist in patient assessments by taking and recording vital signs and medical histories.
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist physicians during procedures.
- Draw blood and perform basic laboratory tests as directed by the physician.
- Administer medications and injections per physician instructions.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their care and treatment plans.
- Handle billing and coding information for insurance claims processing.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in healthcare preferred.
- Previous experience in a clinical or administrative role in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and experience with electronic health records (EHR).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with patients and staff.
- Ability to perform basic clinical tasks such as taking vital signs and administering medications.
- Familiarity with medical billing and coding practices is a plus.
- Certifications in CPR and First Aid are preferred.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
