Job Brief
As a Non-Destructive Testing Underwater Welder, you will perform critical inspections and repairs below the water’s surface using advanced welding techniques and non-destructive testing methods. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, hands-on experience, and proficiency with underwater equipment. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in welding, familiarity with marine structures, and the ability to work in challenging underwater environments, ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Conduct underwater inspections and repairs on marine structures and equipment using non-destructive testing methods.
- Utilize surface-supplied air and scuba equipment to perform welding tasks effectively and safely.
- Employ a variety of power and hand tools, including drills, torches, and sledgehammers, for underwater applications.
- Document and photograph marine structures for quality assurance and compliance purposes.
- Implement safety protocols and procedures to maintain a secure working environment while performing underwater tasks.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to assess and troubleshoot structural issues effectively.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with industry standards and technologies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in welding or marine engineering preferred.
- Valid certification in underwater welding (e.g., AWS D3.6 or equivalent).
- Proven experience in underwater welding and non-destructive testing techniques.
- Strong knowledge of welding equipment and safety practices in underwater environments.
- Ability to work in diverse underwater conditions, including varying depths and visibility.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail in executing technical tasks.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
