Job Brief
The Natural Gas Shothole Driller is responsible for setting up and operating various drilling equipment to remove underground natural gas and oil or to extract core samples for geological testing during exploration activities. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency in drilling practices, safety compliance, and a strong understanding of geological formations. Candidates should have experience with drilling rigs, an excellent mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work in challenging environments.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate drilling equipment to conduct exploratory drilling for natural gas and oil.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on drilling machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Monitor drilling operations and adjust parameters to achieve optimal results.
- Collect and document core samples for analysis and reporting purposes.
- Collaborate with geologists and engineers to interpret geological data and improve drilling strategies.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards during drilling operations.
- Train and supervise junior drillers and support staff in drilling techniques and safety protocols.
- Conduct site surveys and prepare reports on drilling progress and findings.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certification preferred.
- Proven experience as a shothole driller or in a related drilling role within the oil and gas industry.
- Strong understanding of drilling equipment, techniques, and safety procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret geological maps and drilling plans.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work in remote locations and under varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license; additional certifications in heavy machinery operation are a plus.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
