Job Brief

The Mounted Police Officer is responsible for maintaining public order, safeguarding life, and protecting property while enforcing local, tribal, state, or federal laws. This role combines the unique aspects of mounted patrol with traditional law enforcement duties, including traffic direction, accident investigation, and suspect apprehension. Ideal candidates possess strong communication skills, a deep understanding of law enforcement practices, and the ability to work effectively in a variety of situations while on horseback. Previous law enforcement experience or training is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas on horseback to deter crime and ensure public safety.
  • Enforce local, state, and federal laws and ordinances effectively.
  • Direct traffic and manage crowd control during events or emergencies.
  • Investigate accidents, gather evidence, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Apprehend and arrest suspects while adhering to legal procedures.
  • Issue traffic summonses and citations as necessary.
  • Engage with community members to build trust and provide assistance.
  • Participate in public outreach and educational programs related to law enforcement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of law enforcement training preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and necessary certifications for mounted patrol.
  • Strong physical fitness and ability to handle a horse in various environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement procedures and legal standards.
  • Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience in community policing and public relations is an advantage.
