Job Brief
As a Metal Gauge Maker, you will play a vital role in the manufacturing process by analyzing specifications and laying out metal stock. You will be responsible for setting up and operating machine tools to create and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists’ hand tools. This role requires a keen attention to detail, strong technical skills, and the ability to work with precision. Ideal candidates will have experience in metalworking and be proficient in utilizing various machining techniques and tools.
Responsibilities
- Analyze project specifications to determine the necessary materials and processes for metal gauge production.
- Lay out metal stock according to design blueprints and specifications.
- Set up and operate machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to fabricate metal gauges.
- Fit and assemble parts to construct and repair dies, cutting tools, and other precision instruments.
- Inspect finished products for adherence to quality standards and specifications.
- Maintain and troubleshoot machinery to ensure optimal operational efficiency.
- Document production processes and maintain accurate records of work performed.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to improve manufacturing processes and product design.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in machining or metalworking is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Metal Gauge Maker or in a similar role within the manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of machining techniques, tools, and materials.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with CNC machinery and programming is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow safety protocols and guidelines.
