Responsibilities
- Accurately code medical diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Review and analyze patient medical records to ensure proper documentation and coding compliance.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and improve coding accuracy.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding regulations, policies, and industry standards.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and governmental payers, ensuring timely processing.
- Manage and resolve coding discrepancies and denials with appropriate follow-up actions.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems to manage and document coding activities.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to enhance coding skills and certifications.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in health information management or related field preferred.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or similar certification is required.
- Proven experience in medical coding within a healthcare setting.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations, compliance, and billing procedures.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
