Job Brief

As a Mapper, you will be responsible for researching, analyzing, and preparing maps and spatial data in both digital and graphic formats for various applications including legal, educational, and design purposes. This role requires a strong understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the ability to collect, interpret, and visualize geographic information from various sources such as surveys, aerial images, and satellite data. The ideal candidate will possess experience in designing and evaluating algorithms and user interfaces for GIS and mapping systems, making it essential to have a solid foundation in data analysis and cartography.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis to develop accurate and detailed maps and spatial data.
  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to create, edit, and manage map layers and datasets.
  • Collect and interpret geographic information from geodetic surveys, aerial photographs, and satellite imagery.
  • Design and evaluate algorithms and data structures for GIS applications and mapping systems.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to meet project requirements and specifications.
  • Present spatial data findings through visualizations and reports to stakeholders.
  • Ensure data accuracy and quality through rigorous validation and testing processes.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and technologies related to mapping and GIS.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proficient in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in data interpretation.
  • Knowledge of cartographic principles and spatial analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or JavaScript for GIS applications.
  • Experience with database management systems and spatial database technologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to convey complex data insights.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
