Job Brief
As a Logging Truck Driver, you will operate a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of at least 26,001 pounds, primarily transporting timber and logging materials. This role requires a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) and involves adherence to safety regulations and efficient loading and unloading of cargo. Ideal candidates should possess a strong understanding of transportation logistics, excellent driving skills, and a commitment to maintaining vehicle standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate logging trucks safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and regulations.
- Transport logs and timber from forest sites to processing facilities or designated locations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and functionality.
- Load and unload logs, ensuring proper securing of cargo to prevent shifting during transport.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs and documentation as required by regulatory bodies.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other team members regarding routes, schedules, and any issues.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on the vehicle to ensure optimal performance.
- Adhere to environmental regulations and best practices related to logging and transportation.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for operating heavy vehicles.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience driving heavy trucks, preferably in logging or forestry transportation.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety protocols.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery and equipment in a logging environment.
- Excellent navigational skills and familiarity with regional roadways and logging routes.
- Ability to lift heavy loads and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
