Job Brief
The Logging Crane Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating specialized heavy machinery, including logging tractors and cranes, to fell trees, skid, load, and unload logs. This role requires extensive knowledge of logging operations and equipment, and the ability to work in various weather conditions. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical skills, attention to detail, and experience in heavy equipment operation.
Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractors or wheeled vehicles equipped with accessories such as bulldozer blades, grapple hooks, or crane booms.
- Fell trees and skid logs using heavy machinery while adhering to safety protocols.
- Load, unload, and stack logs efficiently for transportation.
- Utilize stand-alone logging machines, including log chippers, to process timber.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Follow environmental regulations and best practices to minimize ecological impact.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate logging operations effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of logs harvested and equipment usage.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training is a plus.
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery, particularly logging equipment.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) for transporting logs.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of logging practices, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments and adverse weather conditions.
- Certification in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
