Job Brief
The Logging Clam Bunk Operator is responsible for operating heavy logging machinery, including tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with various accessories, to efficiently fell trees, skid, load, and stack logs. This role demands a skilled operator with experience in managing stand-alone logging machines such as log chippers, ensuring optimal productivity and safety in forest operations. Ideal candidates will possess strong technical skills, a commitment to environmental safety, and a solid understanding of logging industry practices.
Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with bulldozer blades, frontal shears, grapples, logging arches, and cranes.
- Efficiently fell trees and manage the skidding, loading, unloading, and stacking of logs.
- Utilize hoisting racks and cable winches for pulling stumps and clearing brush.
- Perform regular maintenance checks on logging machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Adhere to safety regulations and environmental guidelines during logging operations.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate logging activities and improve workflow efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of logging operations, including equipment usage and production metrics.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical training or certification in heavy machinery operation preferred.
- Proven experience operating logging machinery and equipment, particularly tractors and wheeled vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of logging industry practices, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on logging equipment.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to effectively collaborate with others on-site.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; additional certifications for specific machinery preferred.
