Job Brief
The Logging Cable Skidder Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery, including logging tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with various accessories to facilitate logging operations. This role requires experience in felling trees, skidding, loading, unloading, and stacking logs, as well as performing tasks such as pulling stumps and clearing brush. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical skills, a solid understanding of logging techniques, and the ability to work in varied terrains while ensuring safety and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractor or wheeled vehicles with accessories including bulldozer blades, grapples, and cable winches to effectively fell trees and skid logs.
- Load, unload, and stack logs for transportation and processing, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Utilize stand-alone logging machines, such as log chippers, to maintain operational efficiency.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety standards.
- Collaborate with team members to plan and execute logging operations in diverse environments.
- Follow environmental regulations and best practices to minimize impact on surrounding ecosystems.
- Document daily operations, including equipment usage and maintenance performed, to maintain accurate records.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in logging operations preferred.
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment, particularly logging tractors and skidders.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on machinery.
- Knowledge of logging techniques, safety regulations, and environmental practices.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions and varied terrains.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate logging trucks as required.
- Effective communication skills and teamwork mentality.
