Job Brief
As a Log Stacker Operator, you will be responsible for operating heavy machinery, including logging tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with various attachments, to efficiently fell trees, skid logs, and stack them for processing. This role requires a solid understanding of logging operations, safety protocols, and the ability to maneuver equipment in challenging environments. Ideal candidates will possess experience in forestry operations and demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, ensuring optimal performance of logging machinery.
Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractors or wheeled vehicles with attachments such as bulldozer blades, frontal shears, and grapples to fell trees and process logs.
- Skid, load, unload, and stack logs with precision to meet production targets and maintain safety standards.
- Utilize stand-alone logging machines, including log chippers, to enhance operational efficiency.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on logging equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety compliance.
- Clear brush and pull stumps using appropriate machinery to prepare land for logging activities.
- Assist in planning and coordinating logging operations to maximize productivity and minimize environmental impact.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to ensure a safe work environment for all team members.
- Maintain accurate records of logging activities and inventory management as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery, particularly in logging or forestry environments.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus, with a strong understanding of transportation regulations.
- Strong mechanical skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues effectively.
- Knowledge of safety standards and best practices in logging operations.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and rugged terrains.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Physical stamina and strength to handle the demands of the role.
