Job Brief
As a Log Chipper Operator, you will play a critical role in the logging industry by driving specialized equipment to efficiently fell trees, transport logs, and operate log chippers. This position requires a strong background in operating heavy machinery and adherence to safety protocols. Ideal candidates will have experience with logging equipment and demonstrate exceptional skills in handling and processing timber.
Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractors or wheeled vehicles equipped with accessories, such as bulldozer blades and grapples.
- Utilize stand-alone logging machines, including log chippers, to process timber into usable materials.
- Skid, load, unload, and stack logs for transportation or processing.
- Efficiently fell trees and clear brush using appropriate logging techniques.
- Perform routine maintenance on logging equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Adhere to safety regulations and best practices in all logging operations.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve production goals and maintain workflow efficiency.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in logging or heavy equipment operation preferred.
- Proven experience operating logging machinery, including log chippers and heavy vehicles.
- Strong understanding of logging safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various outdoor environments.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations.
- Valid driver’s license; experience with commercial driving preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
