Job Brief
As a Lighthouse Keeper, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining lighthouses, bridges, and canal locks to ensure safe marine passage on inland waterways and coastal areas. This role requires hands-on experience with navigational aids, as well as strong problem-solving skills to address equipment malfunctions. Ideal candidates will possess a keen understanding of maritime operations and demonstrate effective communication skills to coordinate with maritime traffic.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain lighthouse equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Monitor and control bridge and lock operations to facilitate safe vessel passage.
- Conduct routine inspections and perform necessary repairs on navigational aids and related infrastructure.
- Provide assistance to mariners and communicate navigational information effectively.
- Supervise subordinate staff and coordinate operational schedules to optimize workflow.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards in maritime operations.
- Maintain accurate logs of operations, maintenance activities, and incidents.
- Respond to emergencies and adverse weather conditions to ensure the safety of vessels and personnel.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in maritime operations preferred.
- Proven experience in lighthouse operations or similar maritime roles.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of navigational rules and regulations, including safety protocols.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective coordination with crews.
- First Aid and CPR certifications are highly desirable.
- Willingness to work in remote locations and adapt to varying weather conditions.
