Job Brief
The Land Resource Specialist is responsible for managing, improving, and protecting natural resources to optimize their use while ensuring environmental sustainability. This role requires expertise in conducting soil surveys, developing erosion control plans, and advising agricultural producers on best practices for crop rotation, contour plowing, and terracing. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of land management techniques to effectively instruct farmers and ranchers in enhancing their agricultural practices and resource conservation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct soil surveys to assess land quality and identify erosion issues.
- Develop and implement plans to protect rangelands and conserve soil and water resources.
- Advise farmers and ranchers on sustainable agricultural practices, including crop rotation and terracing.
- Instruct agricultural production managers on the optimal number and type of livestock and forage plants for specific ranges.
- Recommend improvements for farm and range management, such as fencing and water reservoirs.
- Collaborate with environmental agencies to ensure compliance with land use regulations and guidelines.
- Monitor land use trends and evaluate the impact of agricultural practices on natural resources.
- Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, agriculture, land management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in land resource management or agricultural consulting.
- Strong knowledge of soil conservation techniques and sustainable farming practices.
- Ability to analyze data and develop actionable conservation plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and land use policies.
- Proficiency in GIS software and land management tools.
- Certification in soil conservation or land management is a plus.
