Job Brief

As a Kennel Attendant, you will play a crucial role in the daily care and well-being of animals in various settings, including kennels, animal shelters, zoos, and aquariums. Your primary responsibilities will include feeding, grooming, bathing, exercising, and providing general care for pets and other animals. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for animal welfare, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience in animal care or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Feed, water, and provide nutritional care to animals in a safe and hygienic manner.
  • Groom and bathe animals to maintain cleanliness and promote health.
  • Exercise animals regularly to ensure physical and mental well-being.
  • Monitor and document the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to supervisory staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kennels, cages, and exercise areas.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinary professionals.
  • Assist with the intake and discharge of animals, keeping accurate records.
  • Provide companionship and social interaction for animals to enhance their quality of life.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in animal care or veterinary assistance is a plus.
  • Experience working with animals in a kennel, shelter, or veterinary setting is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift and handle animals of varying sizes.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior and basic health care practices.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Certifications in pet first aid or animal care are advantageous.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
