Job Brief
As a Juvenile Corrections Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining safety and security within juvenile detention facilities. You will be responsible for supervising and managing youth offenders, ensuring adherence to established regulations while promoting rehabilitation and positive behavior. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills, a background in criminal justice or a related field, and experience working with at-risk youth.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and monitor the daily activities of juvenile inmates to ensure compliance with facility rules and regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities, ensuring a safe and secure environment for both staff and residents.
- Implement behavioral management strategies to promote rehabilitation and positive decision-making among youth offenders.
- Assist in the transportation of juvenile offenders to court appearances, medical appointments, and other necessary locations.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of inmate behavior, incidents, and compliance with facility policies.
- Collaborate with social workers, counselors, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Respond to emergencies and conflicts, utilizing de-escalation techniques and appropriate intervention methods.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills related to juvenile justice and safety procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in juvenile corrections, law enforcement, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of juvenile justice systems, regulations, and rehabilitation techniques.
- Strong conflict resolution and interpersonal skills to effectively manage at-risk youth.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Certification in CPR and first aid is a plus.
- Must pass background checks and meet all state and federal requirements for working with juveniles.
