Job Brief
The Highway Patrol Officer is responsible for maintaining public order and ensuring the safety of roadways by enforcing local, state, tribal, and federal laws. Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned routes to monitor traffic flow and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic at busy intersections and accident scenes.
- Issue citations and traffic summonses for violations of laws and ordinances.
- Investigate motor vehicle accidents, documenting evidence and preparing reports.
- Apprehend suspects involved in criminal activities and conduct arrests as necessary.
- Provide assistance and support to other law enforcement agencies when required.
- Engage with the community to promote traffic safety awareness and crime prevention.
- Testify in court regarding traffic incidents and law enforcement actions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in criminal justice preferred.
- Completion of a state-approved police academy training program.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Certification as a law enforcement officer in accordance with state regulations.
- Strong physical fitness and ability to handle emergency situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, law enforcement procedures, and public safety practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in high-pressure environments.
