Job Brief

The Highway Patrol Commander oversees the operational effectiveness of a highway patrol unit, ensuring public safety and law enforcement on highways and state roads. This leadership role requires extensive experience in law enforcement, strong management skills, and the ability to develop strategic initiatives for traffic safety. Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of highway patrol officers, providing guidance and support to enhance performance and safety.
  • Develop and implement law enforcement strategies and policies to improve traffic safety and reduce accidents.
  • Monitor and evaluate highway patrol operations to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate training programs for officers to ensure they are equipped with the latest skills and knowledge in law enforcement practices.
  • Establish partnerships with local agencies and stakeholders to promote public awareness and community engagement in traffic safety initiatives.
  • Analyze data and reports to identify trends in traffic violations, accidents, and criminal activity on highways.
  • Respond to critical incidents and emergencies, ensuring effective communication and resource allocation.
  • Prepare and present reports to senior management on operational performance, challenges, and strategic recommendations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in law enforcement, with a minimum of 5 years in supervisory or command roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Completion of law enforcement training academy and advanced command training programs.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic laws, regulations, and enforcement techniques.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
  • Proficient in data analysis and reporting tools for operational assessments.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective community relations.
  • Valid driver’s license and completion of required law enforcement certification.
