Job Brief
As a Health Records Technician, you will be responsible for compiling, processing, and maintaining comprehensive medical records of patients in hospitals and clinics. Your role will involve ensuring that these records adhere to medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory standards within the healthcare system. You will classify medical and healthcare concepts, including diagnoses, procedures, and medical services, utilizing the healthcare industry’s classification systems. This position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a solid understanding of medical coding systems.
Responsibilities
- Compile and maintain accurate patient medical records in accordance with healthcare regulations and standards.
- Process patient information and ensure timely entry into electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Classify diagnoses and procedures using appropriate medical coding systems, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines.
- Review and verify the completeness and accuracy of medical records and coding data.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to resolve discrepancies in patient records and coding.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Generate reports and analyze data from health records for auditing and quality assurance purposes.
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in coding standards and regulations.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in health information technology, medical coding, or a related field.
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is preferred.
- Proficient in medical coding systems such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical billing software.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance standards, including HIPAA.
