Job Brief

The Head Start Director is responsible for overseeing the planning, direction, and coordination of comprehensive preschool and childcare programs, including before- and after-school care services. This leadership role requires strong organizational skills, extensive knowledge of early childhood education, and the ability to foster a nurturing learning environment. Ideal candidates will possess a background in educational administration and a passion for enhancing the development of young children.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement educational programs that meet the needs of children and families in accordance with Head Start guidelines.
  • Manage daily operations of the preschool and childcare center, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise and support staff, including teachers and childcare workers, to promote professional development and enhance program quality.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts to engage families and the community in the educational process.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness through data collection and analysis to drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage budgetary and financial operations to ensure resource allocation aligns with program goals.
  • Collaborate with local agencies and organizations to provide additional support services for families.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive environment that supports the social and emotional development of children.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in early childhood education or educational administration, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Head Start regulations, early childhood development, and best practices in education.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in budget management and program evaluation methodologies.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR preferred.
  • Commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational settings.
