Job Brief

As a Hand Potter, you will be responsible for creating and reproducing unique handmade pottery objects for sale and exhibition. This role requires a strong understanding of various pottery techniques, including wheel throwing, hand-building, glazing, and firing processes. Ideal candidates will have a creative mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with fellow artisans. A background in fine arts or ceramics is preferred, alongside experience in crafting high-quality, artistic pottery pieces.

Responsibilities

  • Design and create handmade pottery items using various techniques including wheel throwing and hand-building.
  • Utilize glazing and firing processes to ensure durability and aesthetic appeal of finished products.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety standards.
  • Collaborate with other artisans to develop innovative pottery designs for exhibitions and sales.
  • Participate in workshops, craft fairs, and exhibitions to showcase and sell pottery work.
  • Conduct quality checks on finished items to ensure they meet artistic and functional standards.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends and techniques to enhance creative skills and product offerings.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a potter or in a similar creative craft role.
  • Proficiency in pottery techniques such as wheel throwing, hand-building, and glazing.
  • Strong artistic and creative skills with an eye for detail and design.
  • Knowledge of kiln operation and firing processes.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • A degree or certification in fine arts, ceramics, or a related field is preferred.
