Job Brief
As a Grain Buyer, you will play a critical role in the agricultural supply chain by purchasing grain and other farm products for processing or resale. This position requires strong negotiation skills and a deep understanding of market trends to secure favorable contracts. The ideal candidate will possess relevant experience in agricultural procurement and demonstrate expertise in evaluating product quality, managing supplier relationships, and optimizing purchasing strategies.
Responsibilities
- Conduct market research to identify trends and evaluate pricing for various grains and farm products.
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and quality grain products.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with farmers, grain brokers, and other agricultural stakeholders.
- Monitor inventory levels and forecast demand to ensure timely procurement of grains.
- Assess product quality and compliance with industry standards to mitigate risk.
- Collaborate with logistics and supply chain teams to coordinate product delivery and minimize costs.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of purchasing activities, contracts, and supplier performance.
- Stay informed about market fluctuations, regulatory changes, and advancements in agricultural technology.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Grain Buyer or in a similar procurement role within the agricultural industry.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain supplier relationships.
- Solid understanding of agricultural markets and grain quality assessment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to make data-driven purchasing decisions.
- Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with stakeholders.
