The Genealogist is responsible for conducting thorough research, analyzing historical records, and interpreting past events through various sources, including government documents, newspapers, photographs, and personal manuscripts. Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth genealogical research using various sources such as archives, libraries, and online databases.
- Analyze and interpret historical documents, photographs, and oral histories to construct accurate family trees.
- Document and organize findings in clear and comprehensive reports for clients or publications.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their genealogical goals and provide expert advice on research strategies.
- Stay current with archival resources, genealogical methodologies, and technology trends in the field.
- Assist clients in tracing ancestry and resolving genealogical challenges through problem-solving techniques.
- Participate in genealogical societies and community outreach to promote awareness and education.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Anthropology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience in genealogical research, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
- Proficiency in using genealogical software and online research tools (e.g., Ancestry.com, FamilySearch).
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings clearly.
- Membership in a recognized genealogical society is a plus.
- Familiarity with legal and ethical considerations in genealogical research.
