Job Brief
The Furnace Mason is responsible for constructing, repairing, and maintaining structures using various building materials such as brick, concrete block, and glass block. This role requires a strong understanding of masonry techniques and the ability to work with mortar and other binding substances. Ideal candidates will possess a blend of technical skills, hands-on experience in masonry, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Responsibilities
- Lay and bind materials such as brick, concrete block, and terra-cotta using mortar and other adhesives.
- Construct walls, partitions, arches, and other structures according to project specifications.
- Repair and maintain existing masonry structures, ensuring durability and aesthetic quality.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to execute masonry tasks accurately.
- Mix and apply mortar, cement, and other substances to achieve optimal bonding in masonry work.
- Install mortarless segmental concrete masonry units for landscaping and construction projects.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while operating masonry tools and equipment.
- Collaborate with other construction professionals to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mason or in a similar role within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of masonry materials and techniques, including bricklaying and block laying.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with safety practices and regulations in the construction field.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor and lift heavy materials.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
- Certification or training in masonry or relevant field preferred.
