Job Brief
We are seeking a dedicated Funeral Assistant to support our funeral home team in providing compassionate and professional service to grieving families. This role involves performing various tasks during funeral services, including the preparation of the casket, arranging floral offerings, and assisting with the overall logistics of the ceremony. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a sensitive environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and set up the funeral parlor or chapel prior to services, including placing the casket and arranging decor.
- Assist in the transportation of the deceased and casket, ensuring respectful handling at all times.
- Coordinate and direct mourners during services, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Handle floral arrangements and lighting around the casket to create a comforting atmosphere.
- Close the casket and ensure all funeral equipment is properly issued and stored post-service.
- Support families with various needs during the funeral process, demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the funeral home facilities and equipment.
- Collaborate with funeral directors and other team members to ensure smooth operation of services.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in mortuary science is a plus.
- Previous experience in a funeral home or similar setting is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact compassionately with grieving families.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, such as caskets, with proper safety procedures.
- Knowledge of funeral service protocols and equipment handling.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
