Job Brief
As a Freight Conductor, you will be responsible for coordinating the activities of the train crew on freight trains, ensuring safe and efficient operations within railroad yards or industrial locations. Responsibilities
- Coordinate activities of switch-engine crew within railroad yards and industrial sites.
- Oversee the makeup and breakup of freight trains, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Review and implement train schedules and switching orders for efficient operations.
- Direct train crew members, maintaining clear communication and operational efficiency.
- Monitor and report on the performance of train operations, addressing any issues promptly.
- Ensure all safety protocols and operational guidelines are followed to minimize risks.
- Collaborate with yardmasters and other personnel to optimize train traffic flow.
- Conduct inspections and tests to ensure equipment is functioning properly before departure.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in railroad operations preferred.
- Proven experience as a Freight Conductor or in a similar railroad operations role.
- Strong knowledge of train operations, safety regulations, and railroad procedures.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively manage crew activities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
- Proficiency in using rail operation software and related technologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
