Job Brief

As a Forester Aide, you will play a crucial role in the development, maintenance, and protection of forested areas, woodlands, wetlands, and rangelands. Under supervision, you will engage in various manual labor tasks, including the raising and transportation of seedlings, pest control, and the construction of erosion control structures. This position requires hands-on experience and knowledge of forestry practices, with a keen focus on environmental sustainability and ecosystem health.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planting and nurturing of tree seedlings, ensuring optimal growth conditions.
  • Identify and combat insects, pests, and diseases that threaten plant life.
  • Participate in the construction and maintenance of structures to manage water flow and soil erosion.
  • Support the collection of non-timber forestry products, such as pine straw, for ecological and economic purposes.
  • Contribute to the upkeep of forested and wetland areas through manual labor and fieldwork.
  • Conduct routine inspections of forested areas to monitor health and sustainability.
  • Document and report findings related to forest health and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with team members to execute forestry management plans effectively.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; degree in forestry or related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of forestry practices and environmental conservation.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions.
  • Experience with hand tools and equipment relevant to forestry work.
  • Strong observational skills to identify signs of plant distress and pest infestations.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate vehicles as needed.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques in forest management.
