The Expanded Functions Dental Assistant plays a critical role in supporting dental practices by performing limited clinical and administrative duties under the supervision of a dentist. Responsibilities
- Prepare dental equipment and instruments for procedures, ensuring proper sterilization and organization.
- Assist the dentist during various dental treatments, providing chairside support and patient comfort.
- Prepare patients for treatment, ensuring they understand the procedures and addressing any concerns.
- Provide patients with post-treatment care instructions and general oral healthcare education.
- Perform administrative duties, including scheduling patient appointments and managing medical records.
- Handle billing and coding for insurance purposes, ensuring accurate documentation and payment processing.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to promote safety and efficiency in the dental office.
- Stay current with dental technologies and best practices to enhance patient care and office operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited dental assistant program preferred.
- Certification in Expanded Functions Dental Assisting (EFDA) or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a dental assistant or in a similar role in a dental practice.
- Strong knowledge of dental procedures, terminology, and equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and staff.
- Proficiency in dental software for scheduling and record-keeping.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Current CPR certification and knowledge of infection control protocols.
