Job Brief

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of emergency medical services operations, including planning and directing disaster response and crisis management activities. This leadership role requires extensive experience in emergency management, disaster preparedness training, and the development of emergency plans and procedures for various crises such as natural disasters, wartime scenarios, and technological emergencies. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, strategic planning abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of emergency response protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive emergency plans and response strategies for natural disasters, technological incidents, and mass casualty events.
  • Lead training initiatives for staff and community stakeholders on disaster preparedness and response protocols.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to enhance community preparedness and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Oversee the management of emergency medical personnel and resources during crises to ensure efficient and effective response.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of potential disasters.
  • Monitor and evaluate current emergency response systems and implement improvements as needed.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for emergency management operations and crisis communication.
  • Prepare and present reports on emergency management activities to stakeholders and governing bodies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Public Health, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency medical services or disaster management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Certification in Emergency Management or related disciplines (e.g., NIMS, ICS) is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of emergency response protocols, crisis management practices, and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate teams effectively.
  • Proficient in the use of technology and emergency management software systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions in high-stress situations.
