Job Brief
We are seeking a skilled Emergency Telecommunications Dispatcher to operate communication systems and efficiently handle emergency calls. This role requires expertise in receiving and relaying information regarding various public safety incidents, including crimes, medical emergencies, and natural disasters. The ideal candidate will possess strong multitasking abilities, exemplary communication skills, and relevant certifications in law enforcement or emergency response procedures.
Responsibilities
- Receive and assess incoming emergency calls through 9-1-1 and other communication platforms.
- Gather critical information from callers and provide accurate responses to emergency situations.
- Dispatch appropriate emergency services, including police, fire, and medical teams, as necessary.
- Monitor and operate communication systems, ensuring clear and effective transmission of information.
- Access sensitive databases to retrieve necessary information for emergency response coordination.
- Provide instructions to callers based on emergency protocols and personal expertise in public safety procedures.
- Maintain detailed records of all calls and actions taken for accountability and reporting purposes.
- Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency personnel to enhance response efficiency.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in communications or emergency management is a plus.
- Previous experience in emergency dispatch or a related field preferred.
- Certification in emergency medical dispatch (EMD) and/or law enforcement protocols strongly desired.
- Proficient in operating radio, telephone, and computer systems for communication.
- Strong ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure in high-stress situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Familiarity with relevant local, state, and federal emergency protocols and procedures.
