Job Brief
The Emergency Services Director is a critical leadership role responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating disaster response and crisis management activities. This position requires extensive experience in emergency preparedness, hands-on training, and the development of comprehensive emergency plans and procedures for various disaster scenarios, including natural disasters (hurricanes, floods, earthquakes), technological emergencies (hazardous materials spills, nuclear incidents), and crisis situations such as hostage scenarios. Ideal candidates will possess strong leadership skills, crisis management expertise, and an in-depth understanding of emergency response protocols.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement disaster response strategies and crisis management plans.
- Conduct risk assessments and identify potential emergency scenarios affecting the community.
- Provide training and education on disaster preparedness and emergency response protocols.
- Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to enhance emergency response efforts.
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of emergency operation centers and resources.
- Lead crisis response teams during emergencies, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Evaluate and refine emergency plans through drills, simulations, and after-action reviews.
- Advocate for and secure funding and resources necessary for effective emergency management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public safety, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency management or disaster response roles.
- Proven leadership and management skills, with a focus on crisis resolution and team coordination.
- In-depth knowledge of emergency management principles and practices, including FEMA guidelines.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Certification in emergency management (CEM, AEM, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Experience in conducting training programs and public speaking engagements.
- Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions in high-stress situations.
