Job Brief
The Emergency Communications Operator plays a critical role in public safety by efficiently operating communication systems, including telephones and radios, to receive and relay requests for emergency assistance. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Responsibilities
- Receive, prioritize, and dispatch emergency calls to appropriate law enforcement and emergency response personnel.
- Utilize radio, telephone, and other communication systems to provide real-time information and updates.
- Gather and document essential information from callers regarding emergency situations, including medical emergencies, crimes, and disturbances.
- Access and manage sensitive databases and information sources to assist in emergency response efforts.
- Provide clear instructions and guidance to callers based on knowledge of emergency medical, fire, and law enforcement procedures.
- Coordinate with various public safety agencies to ensure efficient communication during emergencies.
- Maintain accurate records of calls and responses for reporting and analysis purposes.
- Participate in ongoing training and certification programs to stay current on emergency response techniques and technologies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in public safety or communications preferred.
- Proven experience as an emergency communications operator or in a related role.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to operate communication equipment and software proficiently.
- Knowledge of emergency response protocols and public safety regulations.
- Certification in emergency medical dispatch (EMD) or equivalent is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under stressful situations.
- Must pass a background check and meet any necessary licensing requirements.
