Job Brief

The Electric Track Switch Maintainer is responsible for the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of electric gate crossings, signals, signal equipment, track switches, section lines, and intercommunication systems within a railroad system. This role requires a skilled technician with a strong understanding of electrical systems and railroad operations, ensuring safety and efficiency in train operations. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience, technical expertise, and the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain electric track switches and signaling systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Inspect electric gate crossings and associated equipment for functionality and safety compliance.
  • Test and troubleshoot electrical systems to diagnose issues and implement effective repairs.
  • Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on track switch mechanisms and signal equipment.
  • Document maintenance activities and maintain accurate records of inspections and repairs.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to enhance system reliability and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards in all maintenance activities.
  • Provide training and support to junior staff on proper maintenance procedures and safety practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in electrical engineering or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in electrical maintenance, preferably within a railroad or transportation environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electric circuits, signaling systems, and track switch mechanisms.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in railroad operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate maintenance vehicles as required.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and on-call as needed.
