Job Brief
The Educational Institution Curator is responsible for the stewardship and administration of diverse collections, including artwork, historical artifacts, and scientific specimens. This role involves conducting research, facilitating public engagement, and delivering educational programming to enhance the institution’s mission. Responsibilities
- Administer, catalog, and maintain collections to ensure their preservation and accessibility.
- Develop and implement educational programs and exhibitions that engage diverse audiences.
- Conduct research on collection items and produce scholarly publications or reports.
- Collaborate with educators, researchers, and community partners to promote institutional initiatives.
- Organize and oversee special events, workshops, and public lectures related to the collections.
- Manage budgets and resources for exhibitions, educational programs, and conservation efforts.
- Evaluate and assess collection quality and relevance to ensure alignment with institutional goals.
- Provide training and supervision to interns, volunteers, or staff involved in curation activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Art History, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven experience in collection management or curation within an educational or museum setting.
- Strong knowledge of preservation techniques and best practices for artifact care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for public engagement and collaboration.
- Proficient in collection management software and digital archiving systems.
- Ability to conduct detailed research and present findings effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of educational methodologies and community outreach strategies.
