Job Brief
The Drilling Rig Operator is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of drilling rigs to extract underground oil and gas resources or obtain core samples for testing during exploration. Responsibilities
- Set up and operate drilling rigs, ensuring efficient extraction of oil and gas resources.
- Monitor drilling operations to maintain safety standards and prevent equipment malfunctions.
- Conduct regular inspections of drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with geologists and engineers to assess drilling sites and plan operations.
- Maintain accurate records of drilling operations, including depth, pressure, and production rates.
- Implement safety measures and emergency protocols to protect personnel and equipment.
- Train and supervise junior operators and support staff on drilling techniques and safety practices.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of drilling machinery to minimize downtime.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree in a related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a drilling rig operator or in a similar role within the oil and gas industry.
- Strong mechanical skills and familiarity with drilling equipment and technologies.
- Valid safety training certifications, such as H2S Awareness and First Aid/CPR.
- Ability to work in challenging and remote environments, often under pressure.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a focus on safety compliance.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions in the field.
