Job Brief
The Dredger is responsible for operating dredging equipment to excavate and maintain navigable waterways by removing sand, gravel, and other materials. This role requires hands-on experience with dredging operations and a strong understanding of marine engineering principles. Responsibilities
- Operate dredging machinery to effectively remove sediment and maintain waterway depths.
- Monitor dredging processes and adjust equipment settings to optimize performance.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on dredging equipment to ensure operational safety.
- Collaborate with marine engineers and project managers to plan dredging operations.
- Adhere to environmental regulations and safety protocols while performing dredging tasks.
- Document daily operations and report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards.
- Assist in the management of dredged materials and coordinate disposal or recycling efforts.
- Train and mentor junior dredging crew members on safe operating procedures and equipment handling.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating dredging equipment, such as cutter suction or hopper dredgers.
- Strong understanding of marine and environmental regulations related to dredging activities.
- Certification in equipment operation or a related field is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and operational manuals.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Physical stamina and ability to work in challenging weather conditions.
- Knowledge of sediment removal techniques and material handling best practices.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for equipment maintenance and repairs.
