Job Brief

As a Dredge Deckhand, you will play a vital role in the operation and maintenance of dredging equipment to efficiently remove sand, gravel, and other materials from waterways. This position requires hands-on experience in maritime operations, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work as part of a team. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operation of the dredge and related equipment to excavate and maintain navigable channels.
  • Monitor and report on dredging activities, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on dredging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Handle and operate various deck machinery and tools, including tugboats, barges, and cranes.
  • Coordinate with crew members to execute dredging plans effectively and efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment on the dredge and surrounding areas.
  • Participate in safety drills and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Document daily operations, including quantities of materials moved and any equipment issues encountered.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in maritime operations is a plus.
  • Previous experience as a dredge deckhand or in a related marine field.
  • Strong understanding of dredging techniques and equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and environmental regulations in dredging operations.
  • Ability to work long hours in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a focus on collaboration.
  • Valid driver’s license; a maritime certification (e.g., TWIC) is preferred.
  • Basic mechanical skills for equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
