Job Brief
As a Dredge Deckhand, you will play a vital role in the operation and maintenance of dredging equipment to efficiently remove sand, gravel, and other materials from waterways. Responsibilities
- Assist in the operation of the dredge and related equipment to excavate and maintain navigable channels.
- Monitor and report on dredging activities, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on dredging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Handle and operate various deck machinery and tools, including tugboats, barges, and cranes.
- Coordinate with crew members to execute dredging plans effectively and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment on the dredge and surrounding areas.
- Participate in safety drills and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Document daily operations, including quantities of materials moved and any equipment issues encountered.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in maritime operations is a plus.
- Previous experience as a dredge deckhand or in a related marine field.
- Strong understanding of dredging techniques and equipment operation.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and environmental regulations in dredging operations.
- Ability to work long hours in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a focus on collaboration.
- Valid driver’s license; a maritime certification (e.g., TWIC) is preferred.
- Basic mechanical skills for equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
