Job Brief
As a Dog Handler, you will be responsible for training and conditioning dogs for various purposes, including obedience, performance, and assistance for individuals with disabilities. Responsibilities
- Train dogs in obedience, performance, security, and assistance tasks according to industry standards.
- Condition dogs to respond to verbal commands and human interactions effectively.
- Prepare dogs for shows or competitions by training them according to prescribed standards.
- Accustom dogs to various environments, ensuring they are comfortable and confident.
- Utilize positive reinforcement techniques to encourage desired behaviors.
- Monitor and evaluate dogs’ progress, making adjustments to training methods as needed.
- Maintain a safe and clean training environment for both dogs and handlers.
- Work closely with dog owners to provide guidance and support on training techniques and best practices.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a dog handler or in a similar animal training role.
- Strong understanding of canine behavior and training methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with dogs and their owners.
- Certification in dog training or behavior (e.g., CPDT, ABC, or equivalent) is preferred.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and maintain physical stamina.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices in animal handling.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for animals.
