Job Brief

The role of a Doctor of Nursing Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) involves administering anesthesia, monitoring patient vital signs, and ensuring patient safety throughout the anesthesia process. As a highly trained advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), the DNAP collaborates with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient care. This position requires specialized graduate education in nurse anesthesia, a strong foundation in critical care, and excellent clinical judgment skills.

Responsibilities

  • Administer various types of anesthesia, including general, regional, and local anesthesia.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and clinical status during surgical procedures to ensure safety.
  • Assess patients preoperatively to determine anesthesia requirements and risks.
  • Develop and implement anesthesia care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Manage patient recovery from anesthesia, monitoring for potential complications.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other medical staff to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Educate patients and families about anesthesia procedures and postoperative care.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of anesthesia administration and patient responses.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nurse Anesthesia from an accredited program.
  • Current certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
  • Valid and unrestricted registered nursing license in the state of practice.
  • Minimum of one year of critical care nursing experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacology, physiology, and anesthesia techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
